After a bit of a rough start to this last quarter of the year, I decided that I needed a pick me up. I had come back from the Matthew Hussey retreat where we learned about connecting to our inner self and actually listening to it. I started this project because my inner self told me that we needed something to cozy up in.
My requirements were that it had to be a cardigan, it had to have cables, and it had to be made of wool. I started looking at patterns in my favorites and came across what I think is the perfect pattern to match what I had in mind.

Yarn Dyer: Robin’s Promise Yarn Co.
Yarn Name: Two Sparrows
Yarn Colorway: Fall Leaves in the Storm
I found the yarn at the 2025 Massachusetts Sheep & Wool Festival. New to me dyer and yarn, but it was the only one that came close to what I wanted in color. I wanted a light brownish gray, and with the added flecks of color, this fit the bill. Plus they were the only booth that had the quantity of yarn I needed. It’s the most money I’ve ever spent on yarn for a single garment, but I’m so glad I did!
The yarn is absolutely wonderful to work with. It’s squishy and soft, and the way it’s dyed means the spots of color don’t take away from the cables.
This pattern is also forcing me to learn sweater knitting at a different level. In the past I always ended up choosing the wrong size to make (often too small) because I didn’t measure myself correctly and didn’t understand how to choose the size with enough ease for how I wanted the sweater to fit. But with the help of a knitting friend, I’ve learned the basics and also bought Amy Herzog ‘s Ultimate Sweater Book.
I can’t wait to finish this and wear it. Given the amount of sessions I’ve been able to knit over the past month, I’m humming along quit nicely!
